Rich Martin provides strategic as well as hands-on operational and financial consulting and advisory services to retail, apparel, and consumer products clients.
With more than 35 years’ experience working with companies from entrepreneurial start-ups to Fortune 100 companies, he specializes in the development of business and financial strategies for consumer brand management, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, and operational consulting.
Rich relocated to San Diego in 2010 where, in addition to his consulting and advisory clients, he has served as a Director and President and CEO of a local company.
Rich’s operational experience includes Chief Operating Officer of Marchon Eyewear Inc., then the largest privately-owned US eyewear company and licensee of many globally recognized fashion and sport brands. Due to his restructuring efforts, the Company’s market value was increased seven fold. Rich joined Calvin Klein Inc. as Corporate President in 1994 to put in effect the strategic plan he had developed with Mr. Klein and his business partner. He co-led the Company’s restructuring from a US manufacturer on the brink of financial failure to a global licensing juggernaut, increasing retail volume from less than $1 billion to over $5 billion during his tenure.
Prior to 1994, Rich held various positions of increasing scope and responsibility at PriceWaterhouseCoopers over an 18 year period, culminating as Partner and Chairman of the firm’s Retail and Apparel Services practice. In this capacity, he served as an advisor to numerous prominent retail, apparel and consumer product companies, as well as many private investment firms.
Rich holds a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from St. John’s University. He has served as an advisor to the National Retail Federation, and has been a frequent speaker and moderator at various NRF conferences. Since moving to California, he has been involved with various local venture groups including SDSI and CONNECT. In addition, Rich has been an active member of the St. John’s University CBA Alumni Association Board of Directors and has served as Chairman of its Student/Alumni Liaison Committee.
